Robin Kalus is a German-born writer and director based in Sydney. He holds a Master's degree in Directing from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Media Management from RH Cologne.

With over a decade of industry experience, Robin has worked across multiple disciplines on productions of all shapes and sizes. After starting out as a cameraman and editor for major German broadcaster WDR, he relocated to Auckland, New Zealand, where he freelanced within the local screen industry on productions such as Amazon Studios' THE WILDS (2020). Returning to Germany, he began working as an assistant director across film and television while producing and directing his short thriller POPPED (2022), which premiered at the 2022 New York City Independent Film Festival.

During his time at AFTRS, Robin wrote and directed several short films. In 2024, his short film concept BOY ON THE ROOF was a finalist at the AACTA Pitch: Focus, receiving praise for its bold genre blend of coming-of-age drama and magical realism. Shortly after, his graduation film FRACTURE (2025) secured active distribution and premiered domestically at CinefestOZ 2025 before screening internationally at BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica 2025 in York, UK.

Robin's work explores existentialist themes of trauma, identity and self-discovery in the context of complex human relationships, shaped through formalist techniques and raw, exploratory performances. He currently works as a freelance director, dramaturg and script supervisor on short films, vertical drama series and commercial projects, and as an editor specialising in online and social media content.

As of 2026, he is in development on his debut feature alongside several short-form projects.
